Shafei leads, plans, directs, and operates technical procedures in our newly built Performance Hall and Black Box Theatre and all other arts spaces. Before this, he worked at the Esplanade Company as a Production Coordinator. In his free time, he is also a member of a Malay Theatre Company, Teater Kami, which produces various genres of Malay drama.
Hailing from an arts background specialising in drama and applied theatre, Nabila has done everything from scripting, to producing, to stage management, directing and acting on stage.
In Yale-NUS, she takes on many hats of which one is the manager overseeing the management of the arts spaces. She also acts as an arts consultant to any staff, faculty or students seeking help in planning, producing and executing arts projects and general events on campus.
Manager, Fabrication Studios
Trained in mechanical engineering, Farhan is an expert in designing and construction. Since 2008, he worked at NUS Yong Siew Toh. There he managed risers at the concert hall, coordinated the performance space and operated lighting and sound.
He moved to the Esplanade as a staging technician, and supervised large-scale international shows, as well as rigged up the stage and hoists for Bay Beats from ground up. He led carpentry work, metal work, and was the fly man who operated the fly systems and ensured control and safety during the work. He also did staging for Takizawa Kabuki, a Japanese theatre production held at the Marina Bay Sands Theatres.
As a staging manager at Yale-NUS, he manages the crew, fabricate sets for the students, and acts as an advisor and consultant to anyone who needs help not only in designing and building of sets for productions, he also assists faculty and students in making items whether for projects or for class use.
Manager, Stage Lighting
Lutfi has more than 15 years of relevant experience in the area of Entertainment Technical, Event and Production Management. Prior to joining the College, Lutfi worked with Resorts World Sentosa as an Entertainment Technical Supervisor and have worked on many shows and events including the Grand Opening of Universal Studio Singapore, Chingay Parade and Halloween Horror Nights, just to name a few.
As a Manager, Stage Lighting at Yale-NUS, he manages the casual technician, conduct lighting workshops for students & faculty. He also provides technical and administrative support to all aspects of the production process (production meetings, rehearsals, performance, bump out), class and lecture support across the College to ensure the successful delivery of programmes.
Specialist Associate (Sound Technician)
Makerspace Specialist, Fabrication Studio
Niki has close to 5 years of diverse working experience, including managing and running a fabrication studio and arts administration. He specializes in 3D printing, laser cutting and has recently also built his own GameBoy from a Raspberry Pi. Niki is also a professional drummer and has performed and toured a number of countries including Canada, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan. Niki possesses a Bachelors of Design from RMIT University, specializing in Communication Design.
Niki joins the College as Makerspace Specialist, Fabrication Studios. Niki will supervise, facilitate learning, as well as ensuring safety protocols are observed within the Maker Spaces. He will also support faculty and students in fabricating research models and curricular material as well as various projects to aid learning.
Specialist Associate Carpenter
Amir is an experienced staging carpenter, who has worked at the Esplanade and MBS Theatre. He was the set designer and builder for PLAYtime at the Esplanade. He is also an experienced stagehand, and was a crew member for LKY Musical, Baybeats, DA:NS Festival and Mickey on Ice. As a carpenter, he specialises in doing woodworking with reclaimed wood and is experienced in handling metal works as well.
Our technical theatre staff are highly trained in sound, light and stage management. They have worked on large-scale productions at Singapore’s most reputable arts spaces such as the Esplanade, Singapore Art Museum, Victoria Theatre, The Arts House and Mastercard Theatres at Marina Bay Sands. In Yale-NUS, they assist Shafei and act as stage operators and school advisors on the usage of stage equipments.
