We make, teach, showcase, and do all things art.
VAS is a platform for Yale-NUS to engage with the Visual Arts, whether by promoting an appreciation for art, honing individual artistic skills, or providing a support network for practicing artists.
Members can participate in or organize visual art-related activities, including art jams, workshops, exhibitions, external events, etc.
VAS welcomes anyone interested in art, regardless of skill/experience level.
Past events and the future
Founded in 2013 by a few arts enthusiasts from Yale-NUS’ first class, VAS is today a collective of students from diverse artistic backgrounds and skill levels. We have become an active contributor to the growing arts scene at Yale-NUS, organizing numerous successful events including art workshops, artist talks, and exhibitions.
ARTober, a month dedicated to the visual arts, is a regular highlight of VAS’ year. The second rendition in October 2015 featured the ARTober Pledge where students pledged to draw regularly on a sketchbook over the whole month, drawing workshops in the new Georgette Chen Studio, talks by external arts practitioners Tan Wee Lit and Ye Shu Fang, and a closing exhibition showing student works created throughout the month.
Previously, we also organised the CANVAS exhibition in March 2015, and student-led art workshops for workers at the Humanitarian Organisation for Migration Economics (HOME) Women’s Shelter in collaboration with the G Spot.
Moving forward, VAS will continue to broaden our selection of arts activities to cater to anyone from the interested beginner to the experienced practitioner, in Yale-NUS and beyond!
